We, that is my two Rhodesian Ridgeback males Simba ("Zuritamu Shakari Simba") and Ulanyo ("CH Glenaffric Ulanyo of Zuritamu") and me, Jana Mach. We live in a rural place at the edge of the Ruhr Metropolitan area, surrounded by green fields and woods in the Ennepe Valley.

After a long research for a dog breed that would match my expectations, I accidentially met a Rhodesian Ridgeback male at the European Winner Show 2001 in Dortmund/D. He obviously wasnīt the least impressed with the crowded and noisy atmosphere in the exhibition halls and followed his master in a very laid-back and unimpressed manner. I got hooked by the character and appearance of this breed and before long I intensively got involved in Ridgebacks and as a consequence - soon knew where I would like to purchase my first Ridgeback: at Zuritamu Kennels. Right from the start I have been enthusiastic about the dogs and the facilities of this Kennel and of course accepted the -as it seemed to me- unbearable period of time until I finally could take home my Ridgeback-Baby "Simba" in summer 2002. I had decided for a very promising male with an outgoing personality, dark mask and elegant outlines.

Very soon it became obvious that Simba shouldnīt stay a single-dog and that I wanted to add another little male to our family, once again from Zuritamu Kennels, a half-brother of Simba called Zorro was reserved for me. But fate had dealt its hands on my plan and thatīs why instead of Zorro someone else moved in to our house in winter 2002: "Ulanyo", a male imported from South-Africa. Between Ulanyo and me it was love at first sight...

Although I initially had adopted both Ridgebacks as family dogs, who e.g. should accompany me to office, they made me take pleasure in some new hobbies. Both boys are active in hunting, while Simba is mainly focused on bloodtracking and Ulanyo has been trained as a multi-purpose dog for work after the hunterīs shot. Besides hunting, also showing has become one of my favourite hobbies and we attend several dog shows per year with quite some success. Another hobby regarding dogs, and which has become a passion to me, is breeding. Especially Ulanyo has produced some very promising, constantly tail-wagging offspring in Germany as well as other European countries. My focus regarding stud partners is on temperament, but also interesting pedigrees, pleasing appearance close to the breed standard plus a responsible and loving rearing of the resulting pups.

We hope you enjoy browsing through these pages and wish all Ridgeback-lovers and interested parties a pleasant stay at our website!

Best regards,
Jana Mach

My dog

He is my other eyes that can see above the clouds;
my other ears that hear above the winds.
He is the part of me that can reach out into the sea.

He has told me a thousand times over that I am his reason
for being by the way he rests against my leg;
by the way he thumps his tail at my smallest smile;
by the way he shows his hurt when I leave without taking him.
(I think it makes him sick with worry when he is not
along to care for me.)

When I am wrong, he is delighted to forgive.
When I am angry, he clowns to make me smile.
When I am happy, he is joy unbounded.
When I am a fool, he ignores it.
When I succeed, he brags.
Without him, I am only another man. With him, I am all-powerful.

He is loyalty itself. He has taught me the meaning of devotion.
With him, I know a secret comfort and a private peace.
He has brought me understanding where before I was ignorant.

His head on my knee can heal my human hurts.
His presence by my side is protection against my fears of dark and
unknown things.

He has promised to wait for me...whenever...wherever--
in case I need him.
And I expect I will - as I always have.

He is just my dog.
